The Ashfall Reckoning

A D&D Campaign — DM: Priya

The Ashfall Reckoning

Five adventurers drawn together by the dying city of Veltharr, where the skies have rained ash for thirty years and the old gods no longer answer. Every other Sunday they push further into the ruin — and deeper into the conspiracy that caused the Ashfall. The world will not survive another mistake.

Five players, level 6

The Party

Soren Vael — Paladin 6

An oath-sworn knight of a dissolved holy order, carrying a broken consecration seal he refuses to explain.

Nym — Rogue 6

A halfling fence turned reluctant hero, whose contacts in the Veltharr undermarket keep proving inconveniently useful.

Dravec — Wizard 6

Former archivist of the Soot Library, obsessively cataloguing everything the Ashfall has destroyed — including his own past.

Thessaly Crow — Ranger 6

Grew up in the ashlands beyond the wall; knows how to survive out there in ways the city folk still find unsettling.

Brix — Cleric 6

Devout of the Ember Trine, quietly convinced that the gods didn't abandon Veltharr — they were silenced.

Sessions 1–6

Session Log

01

The Ashgate Summons

The party met in the holding cells beneath Ashgate Quarter after a botched market-day job — wrong place, wrong time, right people. Governor Aldress offered them pardons in exchange for recovering a stolen census ledger from the Soot Library ruins.

02

Beneath the Soot Library

Three floors of collapsed stacks, animated paper constructs, and one very territorial ex-librarian who wasn't quite dead. The ledger was found — but half its pages had been deliberately burned, and not recently.

03

The Name in the Margin

Dravec deciphered a surviving entry linking the Ashfall's origin date to a sealed experiment logged under a noble house: Varenthis. Governor Aldress recognised the name and immediately ended the briefing without explanation.

04

House Varenthis

The Varenthis estate on Cinder Hill was legally abandoned — but lit from within and guarded by men wearing no insignia. The party extracted a frightened servant girl named Orell, who told them the house had been 'receiving shipments from underground' for six months.

05

The Undercroft Road

Following Orell's directions, the party found a collapsed drainage tunnel that opened into a worked stone corridor far older than the city above it. Murals on the walls depicted the Ashfall not as a disaster but as a ritual — one with a second phase.

06

The Chamber of the Second Seal

At the corridor's end: a vast sealed door carved with the same broken symbol Soren wears around his neck. Before they could examine it, the torches died — and something on the other side knocked back.
